In Summary

Enos Njeru brings extensive experience from within KTDA, having served in governance roles and as a board member representing one of its operational zones.

The Kenya Tea Development Agency Holdings Limited (KTDA) has elected Enos Njeru as its new Chairman and Eng. Samson Mosonik Menjo as Vice Chairman, taking over from Chege Kirundi and Omweno James Ombasa.

The announcement, made on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, marks another leadership change at the agency, which oversees one of Kenya’s most important agricultural sectors.

In a statement released in Nairobi, the Board said: “The Board has elected Enos Njeru as the Chairman, and Eng. Samson Mosonik Menjo as the Vice Chairman of the Board.”

It also expressed gratitude to the outgoing leaders, noting their contribution to the agency’s operations. “The Board congratulates the newly elected Chairman and Vice Chairman, and also expresses its sincere appreciation to the outgoing leaders for their dedicated service to the Agency,” the statement added.

Enos Njeru brings extensive experience from within KTDA, having served in governance roles and as a board member representing one of its operational zones.

He has been involved in coordinating and leading committee meetings for KTDA factories and zones, demonstrating strong engagement with both grassroots and organizational structures within Kenya’s tea value chain.

While his formal qualifications and early professional history are not widely publicized, the board’s decision reflects confidence in his leadership and familiarity with the sector.

KTDA manages tea production for over 600,000 smallholder farmers across Kenya, providing services that include cultivation support, processing, marketing, and logistics.

The agency plays a critical role in supporting the livelihoods of millions of farmers and ensuring that Kenya remains a leading exporter of tea to Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

The leadership changes occur against a backdrop of internal challenges and governance tensions. In early 2025, Chege Kirundi had replaced Enos Njeru as chairman amid broader sector reforms and efforts to align KTDA with evolving industry demands.

The agency has faced periods of instability, with leadership disputes and legal interventions, including a High Court reinstatement of Kirundi, reflecting ongoing debates on governance and management.

Despite these challenges, the board affirmed its focus on governance and farmer protection, stating: “Kenya Tea Development Agency Holdings Limited remains committed to upholding the highest standards of corporate governance, protecting farmers' value, and positioning Kenya's tea competitively in regional and international markets.” The statement underscored the agency’s goal of operational efficiency and fair returns for farmers, which remain central to KTDA’s mandate.

Observers note that stable leadership at KTDA is critical for maintaining farmer trust and investor confidence. By electing Njeru and Eng. Menjo, the board aims to ensure continuity in ongoing reforms and strategic initiatives, even as the agency adapts to market demands and regional and global competition.

The board did not announce any further structural changes, suggesting a smooth and orderly transition. The new leadership is expected to assume their roles immediately, guiding the agency’s operations while strengthening governance, market competitiveness, and farmer value protection.

Tea continues to be a cornerstone of Kenya’s agricultural economy, with KTDA’s decisions closely watched by stakeholders who rely on the agency for production support, fair pricing, and access to international markets. By reaffirming its strategic priorities, the board signals that institutional stability and sustainable growth remain at the heart of KTDA’s agenda.
